The
Fourth of July sparkled both in the
skies above Colusa and in the eyes
of 9 year old Anna Clifton. The
Community Foundation of Colusa
County (CFCC) had the opportunity to
raffle off the chance to “Press the
Plunger” to begin the firework
spectacular which was sponsored for
the first time this year by the
Colusa from the Colusa Casino, Home
Depot and many other generous
sponsors and participants, the day
really was
spectacular.
There was old
fashioned fun at the first annual
watermelon eating contest. The
inaugural event was won by Colusa
County Supervisor Mark Marshall, who
showed himself to be an adroit
watermelon eating pro.
Supervisor
Tom
Indrieri came in a close second,
with City Councilman Eddie Johnson
of the City of Williams coming in
third. Honorable mention goes to
Sally Barker, Secretary for the city
of Williams, who was standing as
proxy to her husband, City
Councilman Don Barker of the City of
Williams.
Once the dignitaries had inaugurated
the event, CFCC opened the eating
contest to the public. Travis
Amundson dominated the competition,
with Damon Martinez finishing
second, and Don Burns coming in a
close third.
