Eddie
Johnson’s Heart Disease Fund of Colusa
County has been established through the
Community Foundation of Colusa County with
the goal that it will provide educational
services, nutritional guidance and outreach
for the residents of Colusa County who have
been impacted by or who are concerned with
heart disease issues. Established by Eddie
Johnson, this fund has been created with the
vision in mind that it will provide
educational materials, nutritional services,
outreach and support for Heart Health. To
this end, the fund would like to provide the
following:
Education:
Support Groups
Films on heart
disease
Resource lists of
whom to call for service
Symptom
recognition
The importance of
regular checkups
Equipment
compatibility
Heart disease
library
Free heart
checkups (on site, at different locations
throughout the county.)
Nutrition:
Wise food choices
Recipes
Safe food
preparation
Exercise programs
Co-op with local
farmers to provide fresh fruit and
vegetables
Grow your own
heart healthy garden
Outreach:
Bi- lingual
volunteer outreach
Create a registry
of heart patients in Colusa County for
direct mailing to inform them of this
program.
Countywide
door to door notification of program and the
importance of heart health, focusing
specifically
on Senior Centers, nursing homes and rural
areas.
Health fair
“We know
that this is a large and optimistic program
and that it will take a long time for it to
become the program of Mr. Johnson’s vision.
However, this program seems to have a lot of
things that can be made available to the
community quickly” said Ben Felt, Executive
Director for CFCC. “By partnering with
existing programs within the community, this
program should be able to begin to have a
public presence within a very short time,
and though the full benefit to the community
will take longer, we believe that it is
attainable.”
